September is Better Breakfast month, if you are reading this with your morning cuppa, is your breakfast worthy of this September celebration?
The Bliss house is notorious for having long winding brunches on Saturday’s and the occasional breakfast for supper—nothing brings grinning table guests more consistently than a cooked breakfast in our house. As much as I would like to suggest that our brunch and evening breakfast meals are able to inch their way into this celebration, I cannot.
So this month, I am donning my apron in the early dawn hours to feed my family in the age-old tradition ‘breakfast like a king, lunch like a lord and supper like a popper’. Good bye rushed breakfast, hello morning family meal.
Each night after supper we plan breakfast for the next day– amazing how challenging it is to come with a variety of ‘royal meals’…as it turns out, breakfast has turned into a buffet of sorts, a little of this, a little of that and presto, everyone is happy. It seems the most exciting part about planning our meals is writing on our new breakfast chalk board (no doubt this will soon become the home message board).
My incentive for getting up at the crack of dawn to feed my family like royalty is this organic cotton apron – I am loving the hand stamped detail, the loop at the waist to hold my tea towel and the feel of the natural fabric. As it turns out I am collecting aprons like handbags now, and out of all the ones I have, I adore this one for its’ simplicity (and the fact that it makes me look like a pro, & long enough to keep my trousers flour free).
And while I am holding an apron fashion show each morning, my daughter is learning to master new cooking skills (she is quickly becoming a pancake wiz and requesting her own apron)…..
And my son is learning how to lay a fabulous breakfast table with the help of these oh so divine place-mats (I love them because they allow a 4 year old to set the table, and he loves them because they make great paper airplanes and colouring mats for after breakfast).
…and together we are building memories and lessons to last a lifetime. I am linking this post to This Blessed Nest , Table Top Tuesday and Tablescape Thursday . All shameless product plugs are linked back to The Market Place.
